Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.
(Romans 8:26-28 MSG)
Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.
(John 14:8-11 NLT)
‘Show no pity: life for life, eye for eye,
tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.’ Deuteronomy
My city is one of the places where it’s been said several times that those driving there
should go back to driving school to learn how to drive properly. Is it those
that are fond of passing the red traffic light without caring about other
people’s lives? Is it about those who overtake even when the speed kilometre is
maximised at 50? Is it about those who prefer to get engross in telephone
conversation while driving at the same time? I wonder how they will be able to
concentrate on the road!
I was driving out to work this morning, thinking out my plan for the day. I noticed
another car right behind me; and in front of me was a motorbike. We, the trio,
were driving at 50 kilometres. It was obvious we were not violating any rules.
All of a sudden I noticed a car overtook the other car behind me and was going to do the same with me, believing that my front was clear. Unfortunately a minibus was
coming on the other side. So this car was in trouble as it cannot come to my
front without hitting off the man on the motorbike. At the same time it was
just too tight to fit in between me and the motorbike.
I had to step so hard on my brake that I felt every nerve in my body rose to life. I
counted my lucks that I had on my safety belt. I was shocked. I could have had
an accident or whatever. Thousands of thoughts ran through my head at that time
and I just realising that this driver was a very careless person. I mean
someone who never cares about safety.
So I followed him. I honed so hard and continued to follow him. I bet he was afraid
or lost. I made up my mind to attract the police with my action so that this
man can pay for what he did. At a point when we got to a stop, I picked my
phone and snapped his plate number. That was when he stopped and came out,
walking to me. I winded down my glass and listened to his desperate voice.
He kept proving he did nothing wrong even when he returned to his car. As for me I had taken his vehicle matriculation number and I had made up my mind to alert the
police. When we reached another roundabout we spotted the Police on patrol. I
slowed down with the intention of going to them. Then I saw the driver of that
car sped off and what I saw was just pure fear. He was a man but he was not man
I got to the police and one of them was smiling infectiously, waiting for me to talk.
That was when I heard an inner voice warning me to let it go. I felt the heat inside me died out and a kind of empty space was left behind. I knew I was just told it’s
not my duty to get this man into trouble. I knew what awaits him if I had gone
to the Police. He will either lose his points or whatever. Maybe he’s got no
driving license at all!
I smiled back at the police, who now had a puzzled look, before I drove off. By the time I got to my destination whatever resentment I’d felt earlier for this careless
driver had gone. I was curious when I discovered all I felt for his was
compassion. It is easier to get him into trouble but what about pardoning him?
Living a life where everything is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth or a deed for a
deed is not the life of Christ. We are to forgive, to let go and to get rid of
any memories that can hinder our relationship with God. God is love. The kind
of love He has for us is incomparable and if we want to emulate Him, then we
should be ready to forgive without holding anything back in our hearts.
People will hurt us. Friends will make us mad. Family members will deliberately step on our nerves. Colleagues will even betray our confidences. Strangers will spat on our faces. The good news is we’ve got the power to love. The driving force of the
love of God is so strong that if we embrace it willingly we will have peace
with God and with people in our worlds.
If we feel we cannot forgive then let us pause and think of Jesus Christ who freely gave His life so that we might have life, and have it more abundantly. That will
help us to forgive and let go.
So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” (St John 8:7)
One important thing I’ve noticed among people is that they are very fast in condemning others. When they hear the news of bad events, murder, embezzlement, divorce, suicide or whatever, they don’t take out the time to know what exactly happened before they jump into conclusion. And you might wonder if these people wouldn’t have been better off if they were naturally born to be judges.
Sin is not what just began yesterday or today or what will start tomorrow. Since the time of creation, sin is already known and established. And if there is anyone who claims to be holy and has never sin, there is no doubt that this person is more or less a hypocrite.
It is clear that we all are able to distinguish the good from the bad but it is very important that we should not let our sense of humanity overpass our sense of wisdom. We have our lives to live. We have the choices to decide what we want. We want to be different. We want to make things happen. So also are our neighbours who want the same things as well though in many different ways. The truth is everybody wants to make things happen but everybody does not have the same level of understanding of how things should be or not to be.
Many people, in their quests, have mistakenly cause harms to other people. They probably have no intention of these hurts, or injuries or whatever but because in one way or the other, they have either been provoked or foolishly did not think twice and thus they ended up finding themselves in trouble.
And instead of moving out to help these people, there are these ‘so-called judges’ among us whose hearts are no longer as it supposed to be but rather they suddenly wake up to condemn.
There is no doubt you, too have been involved in this. I am not here to remind you of how you’ve joined the group of the ‘so-called judges’. I’m writing you this to reawaken you to the word of God and His commandments. Take a look at the above verse and reread it again. You’ll understand the depth of the love of our Lord.
You must not judge, you must not condemn, you must not hate, you must not criticise others, you must not… and so the lists go on, endlessly.
God is love. He does not look at you and at your sins to determine how He should treat you. He looks at you everyday with compassion because He loves you and He cherishes everything pertaining to you.
This is why you must STOP condemning others. If you find this difficult to do, then please look for me, pick up the stone and throw it directly at ME!
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” Ephesians 4:2
Pride comes before destruction. It does not come so suddenly or in a hurry. It slips in gradually without any invitation. And a man who permits pride to rule his life should be very careful. There is no profit in it. There are no positive results in pride. All that comes out of it brings in lots and lots of headaches.
Whereas being humble, having that large dose of humility can creates brighter world for you even beyond your imagination. I don’t want you to confuse humility with foolishness. That you are humbled does not mean you should give free chances to nonsense. Being humble will not give you that space to put up ‘show offs’ or derive enormous delight in pride.
Jesus Christ humbled himself throughout His life on earth. And for this, many failed to understand whom He is until after He left them. Today, He keeps telling us through His Word that we must be like Him. Our world becomes better when we apply these simple principles, which are clearly written in the above verse.
Let me quickly break down the remaining,
— Gentle – It does not say you should let loose your guard. It just wants you to have compassion. Without this, you won’t understand the rudiment of the gospel. Compassion brings out the positive sides inside you. I mean ‘GENUINE’ compassion for life, for people, and for whatever is going on around you. When your heart is stoned cold, how can God dwells in you?
— Patient – A length of time is nothing in the eyes of God. He sees you. He knows what you want and He knows the best time, the appropriate time for that. So do not be in a hurry. You won’t get far when you are always in haste with life. Don’t lose focus. Don’t lose hope. Just stay calm, take it easy and never cease to pray. I mean – RELAX!
— Love – The greatest of all commandments and the best of all. Unfortunately, many have taken advantaged of this in bad ways. Love of God is agape love and if you sincerely have this in your life and apply it daily, then you are surely pronouncing the gospel of our Lord. Love people with extreme genuineness even when it is too hard for you to do this. Love people for whom they are. Love people because you truly love them and not because you want to gain something out of them. Love and never stop loving.
