Do You Love Me?

“He said to him the third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter felt hurt because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” And he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.” John 21:17

From verse 15 of this chapter, Jesus began asking Simon Peter the same question, not just because the Lord wanted to ask but for many reasons.

Peter denied Christ three times before, but he repented on time. Peter was one among the disciples of Jesus Christ, with a very strong inquisitive nature. He asked questions so much that one would think he was a baby.

It was Simon Peter who told Christ not to wash his feet, and when Jesus explained, Peter quickly stretched out his feet, arms and entire body for Christ to wash him (John 13: 6-9).

After the death and resurrection of Christ, Peter became so powerful in the Lord, and please, I implore you to read more about Simon Peter, not just from the Bible but from several historical books that explained more about the Peter and the disciple, there, you will find out how they were martyred. Peter’s faith in the Lord was so strong that Jesus renamed him ‘Cephas’ meaning the rock, which is Peter, the Greek translation.

Peter stayed strong throughout his life. He did not denounced Christ. Even his wife did as a martyr. He preached the gospel without fear, in and out of prisons, with extreme boldness and strength.

Can you be like Peter? Can you boldly declare that you love Christ? Can the Lord come and find you worthy of your calling as Christian? How many souls have you been able to save and bring to Christ?  Can you just check out your life to see if you are truly the image of Christ?

Peace!
