“For the Lord will not cast away His people, for His great name’s sake, because it pleased the Lord to make you a people for Himself.” 1 Samuel 12:22

Samuel was the one speaking to the people of Israel after they asked him to pray on their behalf to God to spare them from death after they realised their error in demanding for a king to rule over them.

If you read the entire chapter, you will understand it’s also during Samuel’s farewell address to all the people of Israel. Samuel made these people to understand the gravity of their sins and the outcome that would follow after they asked for a mortal king to rule over them.

The Israelites have never been contented during their sojourn from Egypt to Canaan, the land of Promise. They rose against Moses who led them out of bondage. They rebelled several times against God and His commandments.

They are people known for their stubbornness and unfaithfulness. In fact, they are never satisfied with what God gave them. They wanted more. And they went to the extent of asking for one of their fellow human being to rule over them.

The Israelites looked at the foreign nations surrounding them who have kings ruling over them, thus, they equally wanted the same. Their request showed they prefer mortal sovereignty over them than God’s supremacy.

Samuel did as they requested after God instructed him to obey the Israelites.

It was afterward, they understood their error in abandoning God and instead choosing mere mortal to rule over them. So they cried out for mercy unto God.

In the above verse, Samuel reassured them of God’s unfailing love.

The same applies to our present days. It does not matter how far you have strayed from God’s protection and laws, He (God) will continue to be faithful to you. God cherishes His name. He is not a man that he should lies.

He is the; I AM THAT I AM and that is the most of all. He remains that forever and He proves it in every circumstances.

Are you at the point that you think God is no longer on your side? If your answer is ‘yes’ then you are wrong.

I want to tell you that no matter what you have done wrong, or wherever you are, God will never abandon you. He is forever on your side even if you hate Him. It pleases God to make you His own child, friend, and person. Do not be afraid to come to Him.

He loves your friendship with Him.
