“But be doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves.” James 1:22
Reading the Word of God is one part and having a deeper comprehension of what you read from the Bible is another.
You may read the Bible in such a way as if you are reading a novel but this is not enough. You must be ready to follow the instructions therein because that’s what the word of God is for.
God gives us His law, His commandments and His love, all through the Bible. There is no way you can fully know God without reading the Bible. When you read the word of God, you will come to understand a lot that you have never learnt before.
The most powerful aspect of the word of God is that you can read the same chapter several times but you will never get the same meaning. That is power! A verse you read today may give you one meaning. If you go back to that same verse tomorrow or another time, you will discover that you read different meaning to it than what you got previously.
Now, you may be great in reading the word of God but what about the impact on you? Do you just read from Genesis to Revelation and that’s that or do you obey the instructions you read from the Bible.
Do not be a hypocrite. Don’t just read the word for reading sake, and do not just go to the church to hear what your pastor is preaching. Stop pretending you understand the Bible when you know nothing. You may deceive yourself but can you deceive God?
Rather, follow what the word of God teaches you. Obey the instructions, the laws and the commandments of God so that you will be able to call yourself indeed a true Christian.
“The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides souls from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and the intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
