The Perfect Alibi for Wife-Beating

Globally, the misinterpretation of the Bible verses caused and still creating fertile ground for domestic violence.

Take a quick look at these two verses below and see the results when they are joined together,

But there is one thing I want you to know: The head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. Therefore, wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

(1 Corinthians 11:3; Ephesians 5:22-25 NLT)

Every woman, too, is made in God’s image, and I don’t think God authorises any man to destroy her because by doing so, the perpetrator is damaging the image of God. Perhaps it is straightforward to say that abuser is attacking destroying God indirectly.

Jehovah does not condone violence against women. Not at all. Misinterpreting the word of God to justify an abuse is a sin.

What does Jesus teach us? To love one another as ourselves. It is as simple as that. If a man genuinely loves himself, he won’t hit or abuse a woman. When he does the contrary, it shows he has a serious problem within him that needs to be treated.

May God help us to apply His words wisely according to His will and not to our own gratification, in Jesus name, Amen
